The Fragrance Story
“The 200ml cologne edition of No.88 pays homage to the first bottle I designed. Presented in our own traditional reagent bottle, which I transformed by using solid black etched glass, which was shockingly new at the time. The No.88 fragrance was named after our first showroom on Jermyn Street, London and has developed a passionate following amongst men and women ever since. It is our iconic global fragrance and has always been our best-seller, with an extremely loyal clientele.
I am often asked how this particular one of our fragrances has become so successful, I believe the complexities and balance of the No.88 scent are near perfection, and I remember, were immediately special to me.
The idea and creation for No.88 developed whist visiting New York in the late ‘70s. I discovered richer, more Latin fragrances, they were exciting and I felt that we needed develop away from the ersatz, more traditional British colognes at that time, so we created a truly bold statement with No.88 fragrance, especially with its unique black bottle for a truly unique impact.”
